For the Dior Ready-To-Wear Spring Summer 2018 Collection, Maria Grazia Chiuri was notably inspired by a series of Niki De Saint Phalle’s work – The Tirs. Niki De Saint Phalle was a self-taught artist who won over the world with work that was big loud and uncompromising.

The Tirs is basically a rifle art. In order to carry out these performance pieces, the artist had to wear a jumpsuit or special jacket along with eyewear of this discipline. Maria Grazia Chiuri reinterpreted these accessories into three distinct models. Diorclub1 – Visor with J’ADIOR at the front , Diorclub2 – a timeless square shape sunglasses but revised version and Diorclub3 – a pilot sunglasses with a modern update.

Diorclub1
Niki De Saint Phalle wore a protective eyewear during which she shot at paint-filled balloons with a rifle hence this has inspired Maria Grazia Chiuri to design the Diorclub1 Visor. It comes in bright colors such as blue, orange, yellow and gray. Diorclub1 Visor feature the inscription “J’ADIOR” along with the name Christian Dior woven in large letters on the rear elastic band.
I say, you either like this or you don’t. If you play golf, I think you would be the chicest chic on the course.

The Diorclub2 version revisits a timeless square shape, with a translucent frame and colored lenses. I thought it seems like the most normal among the 3. At least without the visor. With the visor, it does add some character to a what seem like a normal pair of square shape sunglasses.

Diorclub3 is also design based on an eyewear the artist wore while carrying out her rifle-based performance. This design revisit the pilot form’s masculine style while some feminine touches are subtly added. Fun colors such as yellow, blue and fuchsia are used for the lenses and the star motif, a favorite of Christian Dior, were added on the frame.
Actually, it looked like lab glasses to me but with a very cool touch. Among the three, I can relate to this the most and I believe it will look good with the denim hat too.
In my opinion, Maria Grazia Chiuri had definitely transformed the house of Dior to be younger and sportier. Diorclub Eyewear – Spring Summer 2018 is no exception. The designs are all in bright and fun colors. In the vocabulary of Niki De Saint Phalle and Christian Dior, bright colors evoke love, joy and happiness.
Well, some designs are more everlasting than others and I have this feeling that Diorclub Eyewear are more of fashion statement. It is just a matter of how long the style will stay fashionable.
