Choosing the Right Toothpaste for Braces: What You Need to Know

Toothpaste for Braces

It is time to talk about my braces and the many decisions made after having braces. Why in the first place I had my braces? To be honest, it’s partly vanity and partly knowing the importance of aging with a good set of teeth.

Braces require not just commitment to structural adjustment but also to heightened oral hygiene. I realized I brush my teeth more often and I’m more picky with the choice of toothpaste. I start to do more research on things to eat and oral care. It’s not just about fresh breath; it’s about selecting a formulation that complements my orthodontic care by preventing demineralization, protecting against cavities, and ensuring that my gums stay healthy. Here are some of the points that I’ve research on toothpaste for braces and I hope this will help you as well in picking the perfect toothpaste while you’re on your journey to a beautiful smile.

DID YOU KNOW?
Your oral health impacts your whole body, not just your smile.

Choosing the Right Toothpaste For Braces

7 months with braces now.

Toothpaste Isn’t Just Toothpaste: When you have braces, you want a toothpaste that protect your enamel, prevent cavity, relief sensitivity, prevent bad breath yet still taste good. A typical toothpaste usually have fluoride to do all that. However, a high content of fluoride in a toothpaste may affect the appearance of the teeth.

Choosing the Right Toothpaste:  I found the best toothpaste for myself! They’re from Acaya. Instead of fluoride, they used an alternative called nano-hydroxyapatite. It is a naturally occurring mineral form of calcium apatite, similar to what’s found in enamel and bone. Some studies suggest that hydroxyapatite can remineralize small lesions in enamel, making it a promising fluoride alternative. It’s considered safe and effective for improving tooth hardness and reducing sensitivity.

Steering Clear of Whitening Toothpastes

The Problem with Whitening Formulas: Whitening toothpastes often contain abrasive particles or chemicals that can remove surface stains but may also harm the enamel or lead to uneven coloring once braces are removed.

Focus on Health, Not Just Aesthetics: I know I am vain hence the decision on braces. I don’t want my teeth to look weird in the future once my braces are off, in the next month of so. Just like my I don’t want to just look good with beautiful clothes on but internally broken with health issues.

Flavors Matters: Warm vs Cool

Understanding the Differences: I am glad Acaya has only 2 flavors for now – First Date & Summer Tales. They’re both the same but different. They have the same ingredients and the preference comes down to the flavor.

Personal Preference: They both gave me two very distinct feels. First Date is zesty and felt like a burst of spring in my mouth! It actually refreshes my memory on going on my first date, like I made sure I don’t have bad breath and made the heart flutters. Got to make sure your lips and mouth is ever-ready for that first kiss (wink).

Let me share my Summer Tales with you!

As for Summer Tales, I actually brought it to Bangkok just recently. I went there for Bruno Mar’s concert and I made sure to brush my teeth with Summer Tales before I head out to the concert. It gave me that warm feeling of Bangkok breeze and all that burst of excitement.

The only thing with these 2 toothpastes that took some time for me to get use to was that one ingredient called stevia. I’ve never quite like the taste of it but after a month of using the toothpaste, I’m used to it by now.

Conclusion: Making an Informed Choice

Choosing the right toothpaste for my braces journey involves more than picking my favorite flavor. It’s about making an informed decision that prioritizes my dental health, supports my dental treatment, and ensures that my smile is as healthy as it is beautiful by the end of my braces journey.

Remember, the best toothpaste is the one that meets your specific needs while wearing braces, providing both protection and comfort.
