I guess the Chinese New Year mood is daunting into me and I start to see a lot of redness everywhere. For the Chinese, red represent good fortune.

Red is a bold color when it comes to lipstick. A particular red lipstick might suit me but does not look good on you. It all boils down to the amount of yellow and blue pigments in the lipstick. Sound pretty scientific?

Not really! All you need to do, is just to try till you find one that suits you! I’ve tried quite a number of red lipsticks and I’m going to list down the 6 must-have luxurious red lipsticks here.

GIORGIO ARMANI – ROUGE ECSTACY

I bought this one from Hong Kong because of the hype on how good it was, and Giorgio Armani Beauty wasn’t available in Malaysia anymore. This one lived up to it’s hype. The packaging is very luxurious too!

I love the texture and the red sits well on me. The lipstick is not drying to the lips and I would say it’s more on the moist side. It isn’t very long lasting. I would have to re-apply after my meal.

BOBBI BROWN – ART STICK LIQUID LIP

Two of my favorite colors from Art Stick Liquid Lip is Uber Red (using here) and Hot Tangerine. The matte texture stays on for a long time. It fades a little after meal but if I choose not to reapply again, it still looks good.

I usually use my 4th finger to dab on some lip balm after meal so it doesn’t look too dry by mid day. Heard that Bobbi Brown is coming up with a new lippy called Crushed Liquid Lip and it’s going to be a hit. I’m excited to give that one a try!

DIOR – ROUGE DIOR LIQUID

This was a gift from two very talented makeup artists (@dior_minkishon & @k_jin916) when I was in Seoul for Dior Art of Color, back in 2017. They gave it to me because I loved the texture and it does look good on me!

This square long tube is so versatile. I can slip it in a small bag and take it anywhere. The brush is easy to apply as well. It’s a matte finishing and surprisingly the color does stay pretty long. I do need to reapply after meal.

 SHU UEMURA – ROUGE UNLIMITED SUPREME MATTE

Among all the matte lipsticks I have, Shu Uemura Rouge Unlimited Supreme Matte has the most lasting effect. Unfortunately, it is the most drying too on my lips. Well, I guess we have to give and take here. To solve the dryness issue, I just need to dab on some lip gloss after having it on for a few hours. 

If you’re not into matte, Shu Uemura Rouge Unlimited has two other options too. They’re supreme shine and the new one is satin texture. Recently they also launched a limited edition of Rouge Unlimited RD163. It was claimed to be the perfect red for every Asian skin tone. That is because, it has the finest balance of yellow and blue tones to enhance every Asian skin complexion.

COSME DECORTÉ – THE ROUGE

Cosme Decorté makeup is IMO, way underrated. They have some of the finest makeup and paraben-free. They’re so gentle on the skin. Just like this red lipstick (RD456).

The Rouge Matte Lip Color isn’t super matte. I would say it’s semi-matte. The good thing about semi-matte is that it’s not drying and it stays pretty moist. I’ve done a review on Cosme Decorté makeup, so do have a look at their range.

YSL – VERNIS A LEVRES VINYL CREAM

YSL Vernis A Levres Vinyl Cream was launched in 2018. It’s a liquid lip stain with high-impact color and shine. This has become one of my favorite lip stain and in red. The applicator is so easy to apply and so precise too. I would say the color is quite long lasting. 

Another one of my favorite from YSL is the Tatouage Couture. The texture on this one is matte compared to the Vernis A Levres Vinyl Cream, which has shiny, lacquer texture.

All 6 are in the same category which is red lipstick, but they’re different in their own way.
