In every big city, you can almost find a Four Seasons Hotel snugged somewhere in the heart of the city. When this elegant hotel chain finally announced that there will be a Four Seasons Kuala Lumpur, I couldn’t wait to see it for real! Well, that’s because it is right here in my hometown and I couldn’t be more proud.
This is not Malaysia’s first Four Seasons. Four Seasons Langkawi is and it was my first experience of the Four Seasons impeccable service. Almost everywhere I travel to, if there’s a Four Seasons hotel, I almost wouldn’t miss the opportunity to stay with them. Their legendary service, promises to give only the best and sleek accommodation are things that I look forward to.
Last weekend, my better half decided to give me a surprise. He checked us into Four Seasons Kuala Lumpur for a short city getaway. I was beyond happy when he dropped us off at the hotel lobby. It was truly a surprise. In fact both good and bad. Up till today, Four Seasons left me with no reason to complain each time I leave the hotel, until this one. Well, let me show you around and you’ll understand why.
I don’t think they are ready to be in business just yet.
Huge Room but Incomplete
We booked ourselves into the Park-View Junior Suite and the room was spacious and bright. The view of KLCC Park and fountain was clear from the room except the windows need some cleaning from the outside. Well, Kuala Lumpur is still a growing city so you’re bound to see some constructions going on, and there’s one right beside the hotel. My only concern was the construction noise, but it was very faint from the room and we can hardly hear it in the morning.
As for the room itself, it is pretty bare minimal and I would say, incomplete. There were no stationary items that are usually at a downtown Four Seasons Hotel. International plugs are usually provided at the working table but there were none in this hotel. Well, unless you’re from South East Asia or UK, you should give the reception a call. At least the bed looks and is as comfortable as the rest of the other Four Seasons.
Bathroom Mayhem
I couldn’t help but to fall in love with that huge walk-in closet attached to the bathroom. It makes life much easier to access to my clothes after cleaning up. So, when I got ready to take my shower and was looking for a trash can, there was none. Since we have a guest bathroom outside, I took that one instead.
There’s a TV built into one of the mirrors. I wanted some music so decided to switched it on before heading into the shower room. The TV doesn’t work as I can’t pick any channels at all. So, I went ahead with my shower without the music. While taking my shower, again I saw some flaws. The light under the amenities in the shower room was very unsightly. It definitely looked like it was done half-heartedly.
Speaking of bathroom amenities, usually if there is a bathtub in the bathroom, there’s a separate set of amenities available for the tub. We only have one set and that is in the shower room.
Housekeeping’s Negligence
On the first day, the housekeeper was alright. She kept the room clean and tidy. She missed out on replacing that trash can that was missing from the guest bathroom and didn’t leave any milk for my coffee. Well, maybe there’s suppose to be only one trash can to begin with due to being environmentally friendly. If that’s the case, don’t provide me with tissue paper in the bathroom.
Speaking of the bathroom amenities earlier, on the second day, after the housekeeper cleaned our room, she/he even took our only set and did not replace them. It was really late by the time we realized that so we didn’t call for housekeeping to bring a set for us. So now, we are only banking on soap for a shower.
The Lounge’s Chaos
Since we booked the junior suite, we had the privilege to access the Executive Club Lounge. Upon checking in, we were told that the Executive Club Lounge wasn’t ready for guests but if we would like to enjoy some food & beverages, we can enjoy it at The Lounge, just beside their lobby.
On the first day, we did drop by to have coffee and tea. We were seated and the staff explained what’s on the menu. The next afternoon, which happens to be a weekend, we wanted to do the same, but this time, we were put into this chaos of being bounced between The Lounge and The Curate, another restaurant on the other side of the lobby. That is because The Lounge was fully booked for the afternoon tea. The staff members on both places don’t seem to know what is what, besides walking us from one place to another. We shouldn’t have to be inconvenient due to the this glitch.
Strategic Location
By now, you must be wondering if there’s anything good out of staying here in the Four Seasons Kuala Lumpur. I must say the location is definitely strategic. It’s located right beside the KLCC Mall and Robinsons at Four Seasons. KLCC Mall is a mid to high end range kind of mall. You get anything from Dior, Chanel, Prada to Zara and Uniqlo.
In the Four Seasons Place, there’s a restaurant at the lower ground floor called Malaysia Boleh. You can find some delicious local delicacies such as Fried Noodles, Curry Laksa, Hokkien Noodles and etc. They’re actually tasty! I highly recommend the buns too. We packed it for supper after eating there twice. Another perk is that this restaurant is fully air-conditioned.
Well, after all the issues that we faced in Four Seasons Kuala Lumpur, I don’t think they are ready to be in business just yet. At least, maybe not for seasoned Four Seasons goers. However, there is one particular staff with the name of Nicholas, who checked us in, and was amazing throughout our stay. He remembered both of us and addressed us by our last names every time he bumped into us. Now, that….is what I call a Four Seasons service; by going above and beyond.
