Dior Cruise 2019 was created by Maria Grazia Chiuri’s based on the female rodeo. She was inspired by the Amazons and more particularly The escaramuzas participating in a charreada. Escaramuzas are traditional Mexican women riders and charreada is an equestrian practice of performing several challenging routines before a crowd.
Traditionally, the charreada were reserved for the men. Now, the women riders can do the same while asserting their feminity by wearing full skirts, embroideries, bright colors, large hats and flowers. For the 2019 cruise collection, she interpreted these elements combining tradition and freedom in a contemporary way.
DIORODEO
Dior Cruise 2019 was held in the town of Chantilly, France. Chantilly is famous for the great French equestrian tradition and also linked to the tradition of lace making in this town.
The collection also references The House of the Spirits, the first novel by the Chilean writer Isabel Allende. It portrayed independent female characters wearing embroidered white dresses with lace inlays matched wide-brimmed straw hats.
Another inspiration that was revisited and modernized was the 18th century style, Toile de Juoy, a favorite of Christian Dior. It features a series of wild animals such as tigers and serpents.
In my opinion, the show is like the wild wild west brought to live but with fashionable, dazzling cowgirls. In some ways, the fashion sense does bring me back to Abraham Lincoln days during the 1860s, but a whole lot more modernized and refined.
How do you like the collection from Dior Cruise 2019? Which look is your favorite?
