Red lipsticks were popularised by icons like Marilyn Monroe and Elizabeth Taylor. For centuries, many women were attracted to red. Women have always tried their best to wear red, and made it their glorious colour.
Egyptians like Cleopatra crushed bugs and color their lips red, hence red lipsticks.
Here’s a little fun fact – lipsticks were created about 5000 years ago. Ancient Sumerian men and women were possibly the first to invent and wear lipstick. They crushed gemstones and used them to decorate their faces, mainly on the lips and around the eyes. Egyptians like Cleopatra crushed bugs and color their lips red, hence red lipsticks. Even Queen Elizabeth 1 wear colored her lips red with her stark white face, and since became fashionable.
Throughout my flying career with Malaysia Airlines, we were always told that women are best when she wears a red lipstick. Albeit a bold and strong color, I find red lipsticks beautiful. It is bright orange red that is a staple amongst people from the 60’s. This lipstick is very creamy and make the lips feel really soft. It doesn’t have a long lasting power, hence you might need to do a regular touch-up. Gorgeous colour and reasonably prices at RM37.90 (varies at different stores)
L’Oréal Paris Colour Riche Matte Lipstick – R518 Flaming Kiss

L’Oreal Paris Colour Riche Matte Lipstick is richly hydrated yet matte. It keeps the lips feeling extremely soft and smooth. Well, this lipstick glides on very smoothly during application and doesn’t leave the lips feeling dry. It has a very long lasting power and it could stays on for hours.
The pigment was rich with great colour saturation and most importantly it doesn’t stain on my coffee mug. That itself is a score! A beautiful color with reasonable price at RM38.05 (varies at different stores).
Maybelline New York Color Sensational® Powder Mattes Lipstick – Red-dy Red

Maybelline New York Color Sensational® Powder Matte Lipstick is a lipstick that pops and moisturizes. It is vibrant in colour and very creamy which leaves behind a sensuous finish after application. This red lipstick has a plus point staying power. The lipstick glides on smoothly and it Red-dy Red has an orange undertone. This vibrant lipstick is reasonably priced at RM27.90 (varies at different stores)
Catrice Ultimate Color Lipstick – 310 Red My Lips

Catrice Cosmetics is new to the drugstore shelf, here in Malaysia. This cosmetic brand started in Germany back in 2004 and expanded to the US market in 2015. Only recently, I was introduced to this brand by Yen’s friend, Agnes (Once Over Lightly), and she highly recommended Catrice Ultimate Color Lipstick. One thing I love most about Catrice Cosmetics is that they are animal cruelty-free. The products and ingredients are not tested on animals.
What I love about Catrice Ultimate Color Lipstick is that it is rich and creamy yet it has good staying power. The lipstick isn’t too shiny in comparison to Revlon Super Lustrous Creme Lipstick and it doesn’t give me flaky lips. This color 310 – Red My Lips, gives me an outstanding lips for sure. Catrice red lipstick is one of my best buy among the 4. It’s only RM21.90 yet the quality is nothing short from the rest. Unfortunately, I couldn’t find it on Guardian online. You can definitely get it from the store.
Here is another tip for you – if you do not know which shade of red to wear, just look at the colours of the veins on your wrist. If your vein looks blue, wear brighter shades of red. As for someone with visible green veins, wear the darker shades of red.
