4 Steps To Protect Your Suede Shoes

by
When I bought this pair of Stuart Weitzman Lowland OTK boots, I didn’t plan to wear it out when it’s snowing or raining. Then, when I woke up one morning in Zürich, it was filled with snow like a winter wonderland! I can’t help but to wear the boots out to walk around the city and take some outfit pictures.

In order to keep my boots looking good, I’ve taken these 4 steps to protect my suede shoes.

  1. Before I brought my boots for travel, I applied a waterproof spray to protect them from stains, water and snow. I used Florsheim Suede/Nubuck Protectant.
  2. I prepared a suede eraser just in case it get a stain. I would suggest the one from Allen Edmonds.
  3. At the end of the day, I noticed some mud on them. I let the mud dry overnight and brush it off with a stiff brush. Then I wiped the stain off with a damp cloth.
  4. When I’m not wearing them, I keep them in the dust bags just in case it accidentally got scratched when I packed it in the luggage. I was thinking of getting these cedar shoe trees inserts, to keep my boots mold-free and in shape when I’m not wearing them.

I wouldn’t suggest you to wear them on rainy days or days when snow are melting and slushy. In the end, these boots are made for walking. I invested well in these shoes so I’m going to make sure they are well-worn and also, age gracefully.

Do you have any tips to take care of suede shoes?
