This year, Chinese New Year falls on February 19th. In the lunar calendar, Chinese everywhere ushers in the new year. This celebration is just as huge as Christmas for the Christians. I grew up knowing that before Chinese New Year, my mom would buy new clothes for the family and prep new utensils to be used for the reunion dinner. Apparently, it means we are ushering in the new year with new things and new chapter begins. Although now, I personally believe that we are very blessed to be financially stable. We are able to buy basic needs such as paying for a shelter, bring food to the table and wear new clothes.
As time passes, many of these traditions are slowly fading away. We tend to buy clothes anytime of the year as and when we want it. We don’t wait till the new year to use new utensils anymore. Although, the two things that I still try to practise, are having reunion dinner and wearing something red. In the olden days, it is believed that red is a color of protection towards the evil spirit. In my term, red does look good on me and I like that color =D
This time around, I am collaborating with Levi’s to show you how I would live in my pair of Levi’s. Red jeans aren’t too common and it’s definitely a color filled with energy. Since this year we are ushering in the year of Ram, I paired my Levi’s Skinny Jeans with this black sweater. Don’t you think the sheep on it is so adorable? I tried to keep everything plain and simple so that the pattern on the jeans are able to stand out by itself. At first, I would like to wear this sweater on the first day of Chinese New Year but I abandoned that idea. That’s because I would rather not deal with my mom’s nagging. She is a superstitious lady and there should be no black or white in the household on Chinese New Year. So yea, I’m wearing it today instead.
Hope you like my outfit and I will show you more of Levi’s Chinese New Year collections in the next post. Do you own a Levi’s?
