Travel – Athens, Greece (Part 1)

by
Previously, I’ve shared Mycenae with you and now I’ll share a little bit of The Acropolis of Athens. Since we were here for a Greek wedding, we took the opportunity to discover this town which is so rich with history.

The Acropolis is like a fortress for Athens back in the days. Due to war and earthquake, many buildings have been burned down and torn apart. The remains is what we see today. The word Acropolis comes from a Greek word, Acro = edge, Polis = city. One of the famous building in The Acropolis is the Parthenon. It is a temple dedicated to the Greek goddess, Athena.

Ruins always saddens me. Like this is what’s left for us now when once, it was such a grand structure. It’s also good that you visit The Acropolis Museum before climbing up that hill to see the ruins. You’ll get a better understanding of the history. If you would like to read more about The Acropolis, go here.
